RUN WOODWARD - MEET #1

We are gearing up for our first Track Meet on Tuesday, April 10^th.  We are thrilled to have a team of over 80 Woodward Athletes!  All runners need to be at Manteca High at 4:00.  Each student will be participating in at least two running events and a field event.  All assigned events will be posted on the website by Monday night.  T-shirts will be distributed on Tuesday.

Important Information Regarding Meets:

·         Students need to bring water to all meets and practices.

·         Students should wear their track shirt, comfortable running shorts, and running shoes (no spikes).

·         Students must report to Mrs. Crippen and check in regularly.

·         Students are to remain in our Woodward Cheering Section between events and help encourage our team members on the track

·         Students are responsible for checking in at the staging area for their events on time, listen for announcements, and follow the order of events.  (with 80 runners on our team, coaches will not be able to tell every individual child when it is time to check in for their event.)

·         Students are responsible for completing their field events between their running events and recording their results on the team clipboards. All field events are open from 4:30-6:30.

·         Students are expected to represent Woodward Elementary in a positive manner showing respect for all participants.

This year, once again, we are able to involve anyone who wants to be on the Woodward Track Team!  Anyone who tried out has officially made the team!  Even those who did not attend the first week, are invited to join us!

All registration forms and $30 cash is due to the office Monday, April 2nd!

Track Season Begins Next Week

Track Tryouts will be held on Monday, March 26th and Wednesday, March 28th at Woodward from 3:00 - 4:00.  Track season involves students in grades 4-8.  Registration fee is $25 + $5 t-shirt fee. 

Registration Due Monday, April 2nd.

Another Local Run

Here is another race coming soon in our comunity! It is put on by the Second Harvest Food Bank in an effort to stamp out hunger!

Modesto Marathon Expo

Today is the day to pick up race packets if you are running the Modesto Marathon 5K.  You can also pick them up race day from 6:00-7:00AM. (I recommend picking them up today as it will be crowded in the morning)

It's not too late to register. The race will take place rain or shine!

Look for Mrs. Crippen at our Run Woodward booth before and after the race.  Remember to wear your Mustang Marthoner tshirt.

February Updates

We will continue to hold Run Days during conference week minimum days.  We will meet on Monday and Thursday at our regularly scheduled 3:00.  Feel free to return to school to run your mile!

If you are enjoying running, you may be interested in participating in a 5K race that will be held at Woodward Park on Sunday, May 27th.  The race is part of the Woodward Park Memorial Day festivities.  For more information:  http://www.thememorialweekend.org/5k_Run.html

Mustang Marathoners Update

We are approaching the end of our 26.2 miles!  In order to receive a medal, all miles must be completed by March.  Mustang Marathoners have two options for completing their Progressive Marathon.

Option #1 - Modesto Marathon 5K (3 mile run) – March 18, 2012

We have partnered with the Modesto Marathon as an option for the Mustang Marathoners Progressive Marathon culmination.  Members who wish to complete their last 3 miles at the Modesto Marathon event will need to register for the run on the Modesto Marathon website. The price of the 5K is $15 for students and $20 for adults.  The price will increase after February 18^th.  A meeting place has been set up at the event for the Mustang Marathoners Running Club Members to gather and receive their medals.

Option #2 - Woodward Mustang Marathon Completion

Members also have the option of completing their last miles at school. Run days will continue on Mondays and Thursdays until March 22^nd.  On March 22^nd, members who have completed their 26.2 miles will receive their medals at school.

Please complete the form indicating your option choice.

Anyone who has missed a Run Day and needs to make up miles, may record miles completed off campus and submit to a Running Club Coordinator.  It is each member’s responsibility to ensure they have completed 26.2 miles.

Our scheduled Run Day (January 23rd) has been cancelled due to the storm.  We will run again on Thursday, January 26th.

T-Shirts have Arrived!

All t-shirts have been delivered.  If you have not received your shirt, contact Michelle Crippen at mcrippen@musd.net.  We are asking everyone to wear their Running Club t-shirt to practice on Thursday, December 15th for a group photo!

Independent Miles

Can't make it to all the Running Club practices?  Don't worry! 

You can run some of your miles off campus and count them towards your Progressive Marathon!  Log your miles on the provided tracking sheet and have it signed by a parent or Running Club Coordinator.  A minimum of 10 miles must be compeleted at school. 

(One lap around Woodward Park is 1.2 miles)

Time Change AGAIN!

All athletes must report to Sierra High at 3:30!

No track practice Friday, May 6th due to Woodward Carnival!

Our last track practice will be held on Monday, May 9th at 3:15.  It will be a short meeting for all our athletes. Ice cream will be served in celebration of our great season!

Finals Meet Tuesday, May 10th at 4:00 Sierra High School.  All competing athletes need to be at Sierra at 3:30.

First Meet Tuesday April 12th!

We are gearing up for our first Track Meet on Tuesday, April 12th!  We are THRILLED to have a team of 75 Woodward Athletes! All runners need to be at Manteca High at 4:00.  Each student will be participating in at least two running events and one field event.  All assigned events will be posted on this website Monday night.  This is a Practice Meet and students are welcome to change their events for Meet #2.  However, no event changes will take place this week.

T-shirts will be in on Monday.  Students are welcome to keep their track shirt by paying $5.00 cash to Mr. Taylor.  Students who do not wish to purchase their track shirt may return it at the end of the track season.
